How to check if your property is in a Colchester District conservation area
For Colchester district properties you can follow this link to the Colchester Planning on the Map page
Once you have opened the map page, use the key on the left of the page to select Planning Constraints (press the + button) and then select Conservation Areas. Then put in the address of the property you are interested in. Do this by using the address box at the bottom left of the page. The map will then zoom in to the address you have given. If the address is in a conservation area, then details of the planning constraints, including any under Article 4 will be shown in the white box on the left of the page. If the address is not subject to article 4 then nothing will be shown here.
It is advisable for all property owners to establish whether any planned changes or developments to a property will require permission from the local planning authority prior to commencement of any works. The cost of proceeding without doing so could be considerable.
