The Great British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean

The Great British Spring Clean is a national event run by Keep Britain Tidy. It has a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches. The Colchester Society registers and takes part annually in a bid to keep our own town free of unwanted litter. The 2020 event was postponed because of Covid 19 and became the Great British September Clean. Over 2 sessions totaling 18 volunteer hours, the Society team collected 31 bags of waste (22 general and 9 recyclable) as well as 3 discarded orange cones, a number plate, the rusted remains of a barrel, 2 boxes of not so fresh Waitrose food, a garden rake, two large polystyrene boxes, several shoes and a five pound note. Not forgetting the bottom half of a one legged mannekin!

Please check the Keep Britain Tidy website for details of next year’s national event and how to take part.
